Colombo Municipal Council Finance Committee Now Under Opposition Control Majority of Committee Members from the Opposition
In a significant political shift, the Finance Standing Committee of the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) is now under the control of opposition members. Today (14) Five opposition councillors have been elected to the committee, marking a clear majority in its composition.
The selected members include Roi Bogawatha, Anura Sujeewa, Tharanga Athuraliya, Dayagantha Perera, and Arshad Nizamdeen — all representing the opposition benches.
The appointments were officially confirmed by the Mayor of Colombo, who exercised the powers vested in the office to finalize the committee’s composition. This development is expected to influence the financial decision-making and oversight functions within the council in the coming months.
